Peregrines now becoming an almost daily sight on the chimney. As Craig previously alluded to would it be possible to get a nesting platform up there.?

Hi Tony,

Slipped up really a few years ago when they were working on the chimney down at Groundwork/New Hall Hey. That is a much more suitable chimney with the large shelf around the top for the young to fledge onto when leaving a tray. Need to watch out for the next time work is done there.

Bit more difficult on Ilex chimney as there`s no big ledges for a tray. Good idea though as i think they would be straight to it..

Craig.

Hi Tony/ Craig

When Ilex Mill was redeveloped the company who did it blocked all the holes on the chimney to stop the jackdaws using them.  There was a story in the Free Press where a young girl had questioned this and the company responded by stating that they had been allowed to redevelop the mill on the understanding that they did not allow access to nesting birds, or words to that affect, so the probably wouldn't have given permission for a peregrine tray.  As Craig says Hardman Mill at Groundwork does look more suitable

cheers Kevin

Thanks for the replies, a bird has been there most days this week, pied wagtail feathers on the ground Monday morning and a half eaten field vole on the ground today, something I've not seen in over 14 years working there.
