0800/1230hrs. Cool 12 degrees overcast and drizzle calm.

Things of note.

Swallows have fledged in the stables both here and at Sheep Hey, while checking Sheep Hey I had a flock of 14 Linnet including 8/9 young and at least 4 Greenfinch along with 20+ House Sparrows.

House Martins still feeding young in Shuttleworth.

Lots of Jackdaw, Rook, and several Magpies in the grazed fields.

Pair of Dipper with two approx 10 day old young on Dearden brook near the old print works, also one Grey Wagtail.

15 female/juvenile Goosanders on the Irwell between Stubbins and Alderbottom, also two juvenile Moorhen, Two kingfishers, several Dipper and 10+ Mallard.

An unusually large flock of Goldfinch feeding on thistle banks near Alderbottom, from a quick photo numbers were around 80.

Green Woodpecker calling (not found) near Porritt lodge, also one Kestrel and a Buzzard soaring over lodge farm

Several Willow Warbler still around, also 2 Bullfinch, 4 Nuthatch, 1 Treecreeper, 3 Jays and usual Tits, Robins etc.

No thrushes seen at all.

Feamale Pheasant with four young.

The last two nights I have had a well grown juvenile Tawny Owl hunting around the back of my house.

Regards Brian
