Kearn's Lodge area moorhen - 1 kestrel - 1 grey wagtail - 1 redwing - flocks of 23, 24 & c30 plus another 4 seen at Cowpe Park redpoll - 1 calling
Cowpe Res cormorant - 4 grey heron - 1 Canada goose - 21 in nearby field kestrel - 2 lesser black backed gull - c75 black headed gull - c30 common gull - 1 pied wagtail - 3 meadow pipit - 2 stonechat - 1pr fieldfare - 4 over carrion crow - c8 included 1 bird flying across the res and dipping its beak in the water to feed like a black headed gull. I've never seen this behaviour before goldfinch - 6 siskin - 6 redpoll - 1 calling crossbill - flock of 20 flew out of the conifers and over the res and on up the hillside. Interesting to note that Mike C Cooper reported hearing crossbills flying over Naden today on the Manchester Birding Forum, which were possibly this flock.
Facit Incline, Whitworth Raven - 2 soaring jay - 1 mixed flock of coal tit, long tailed tit and goldcrest
Cowm cormorant - 1 mallard - 27 tufted duck - 7 black headed gull - c30 common gull - 4 great black backed gull - 1 lesser black backed gull - c200 flew from the direction of Whitworth Quarry in a 10 minute period from 13:50 to 14:00hrs & c100 landed on the res green woodpecker - 1 possibly 2 goldcrest - heard calling in 3 locations, only a few birds seen, but calls suggested each location contained a family party rather than just the few seen long tailed tit - min 9 in mixed flock coal tit - c5 chaffinch - c5 redpoll - 1 heard bullfinch - min 2 calling
Spring Mill great crested grebe - 1 cormorant - 6 tufted duck - 1m teal - 1 female lesser black backed gull - 2 flying towards Cowm black headed gull - 2 little owl - 1 green woodpecker - 1 pied wagtail - 3 stonechat - 1pr bullfinch - min 2 calling
Bacup Rec & Bacup Golf Course area kestrel - 1 pied wagtail - 16 at Sow Clough meadow pipit - 2 collared dove - 2 mixed flock containing minimum counts as follows - 16 long tailed tit, 10 great tit, 6 blue tit, 2 coal tit, 3 chiffchaff & 2 bullfinch. These all appeared to be heading to one dense block of conifers to roost goldcrest - another family party coal tit - another family party redwing - 2 birds flying in to roost in same trees as the aforementioned mixed flock goldfinch - flocks of 8, c36 & a single probably flying in to roost
