Large numbers of gulls noted passing over Haslingden today as follows
Whilst I was stood talking to Sarfraz at c10:00hrs c500 mostly herring gulls passed over Haslingden heading north. Sarfraz had seen a few before I met him.
The following flew west over Grane
herring gull - 10 @ 10:45, 6 @ 12:40, 36 @ 13:40, 13 @ 13:55, 30 @ 14:00 & 35 @ 14:10. Mixed in with these were at least 1 great-blacked gull & 2 lesser-black backed gull. These birds really struggled against the strong winds.
Later in the day between 17:05 & 17:25 c860 herring gulls flew north over Road End in flocks of between 4 birds & c600. The large flock of c600 appeared to have come from the direction of Ashworth Moor Reservoir. Some of the other birds appeared to be coming from Rawtenstall, although this could have been birds from Ashworth Moor being blown that way before turning towards Road End. At least 1 great black-backed gull was mixed in with these.
Also noted today
3 siskins at Musbury
10 pied wagtails flying past Bentgate to roost on Knowsley Road Industrial Estate
cheers Kevin

I must have had at least 50 -100 before you and around 100 after you and 2 Great Black Backs. I spoke to Neil and he said there was constant passage of since at least 8am mainly from Balladen side. The birds I saw from house were coming from that way too. There could have been in excess of over 3000 large gulls over today.
