For the past few days I've had the usual tits, finches (No Bull or Green), corvids etc  and an abundance of robins daily counts have approached and on two occasions passed double figures 11 and 13, I just wondered if anyone with more experience could shed some light on why I'm getting these unusually large numbers, they are not young birds.

Hi Anthony,

I don't believe there is a simple answer to your question, but I would assume because you are providing a food source and Robins in particulate are very upfront, you are seeing high numbers.  Normally by this time of the year they are very territorial and will see off any interlopers but with low night temperatures and the bad weather last week they will be glad of the free hand out of food as they will be trying to feed young in the nest.

Regards Brian.
