Spent a few days on the south coast and managed a couple of hours, early morning each day, in The New Forest or Hengistbury Head. Most sites were difficult birding with low numbers of birds showing themselves apart from Redstart and Stonechat which were everywhere! The following were noted:
Manx Shearwater, c12 off Portland Bill,
Gannet, c5 off Hengistbury and c6 off Portland Bill,
Little Egret, c6 at Hengistbury and c6 in The Avon Valley,
Goshawk, female over at Acres Down,
Buzzard, c12, looked hard but couldn't spot a Honey!
Red Kite, 1 over,
Hobby, 1 over Lyndhurst,
Grey Partridge, calling bird at Martin Down,
Sandwich Tern, c4 off Hengistbury,
Guillemot, c12 off Portland Bill,
Turtle Dove, 4 at Martin Down,
Stock Dove, c12,
Cuckoo, 1 at Martin Down & 1 at Keyhaven,
Woodlark, 1 at Acres Down,
Tree Pipit, 1 at Acres Down,
Rock Pipit 2 at Hengistbury & 1 at Keyhaven,
Stonechat, c50, numerous on all heaths,
Redstart, c30, several family parties especially Shatterford & Acres Down,
