Three teams of two took part in this year's bird race and saw a total of 76 species, which was a good total for a relatively late date, with the following team scores:
Team A (Ian & Kevin) 71 species.
Team B ( Bob & David) 65 species.
Team C (John & Peter) 62 species.
Highlights of the birds seen were:
Grey Partridge, 2, thought to be an adult with a juvenile, were seen near Holden Wood Res,
Dabchick, on HTL,
G.C.Grebe, Calf Hey & a single on the River Irwell,
Buzzard, 4 soaring over The Irwell Valley plus a pair in Grane,
Coot, up to 6 on Holden Wood Res,
Common Sandpiper, at Clowbridge & Jamestone,
Little Owl, 1 on Chapel Hill,
Kingfisher, 1 on The Irwell,
Green Woodpecker, 1 in Grane,
Raven, family party of 5 over Grane,
Whitethroat, several along The Irwell & 1 in Grane,
