I spoke to our regional office and they suggested that I contact yourselves as youre not too far away from this patch and that you might be interested.

I am messaging because Hoddlesden Moss (part of the West Pennine Moors) in Darwen is threatened by the potential development of a wind farm. The West Pennine Moors are currently in the process of going through designation to become a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Hopefully the designation will come soon and well get a better level of protection for birds on it.

Unfortunately in the meantime we have a situation at the Moss because an application to build a wind farm is trying to be pushed through (despite having been refused before).

Hoddlesden Moss is a beautiful area of deep peat blanket bog and has a rich array of upland breeding birds including snipe, golden plover, dunlin, curlew, teal and red grouse.  It even has rarities like short-eared owl in the area.  All of these are at risk of being displaced by the turbines and affected by the drainage required to install turbines and access tracks.

We have given more information here, along with an e-action to help local people to write to the planning department and comment on the proposals should they wish too.
