Swillington Ings/RSPB St Aidans near Leeds - June 2016

Went to Swillington Ings/St Aidans in 3rd week of June and had a great time.  Not only a brilliant place for birds but for butterflies, dragonflies and damselflies and other insects.

Highlights of the day including a few Yellowhammers, many Warblers including Whitethroat, Garden Warbler, Blackcap, Willow Warbler, Chiffchaff, Sedge Warbler and Reed Warblers  as well as Black-necked Grebes, Garganey, Little Egret, Bittern, Black Tern and Yellow Wagtail.   The Bittern flew right in front of me and I believe this is one of the best places to get close to Bitterns in the North.  The Black Tern was resident latching onto a Common Tern colony who would then occasionally chase it away.

Non-avian wildlife included Common Blue damselfly, Blue-tailed Damselfly and an unknown Dragonfly.  Butterflies included plenty of Meadow Brown, Ringlet as well as the more common species.

Nice photos! It looks like a great day out - count me in if I'm available.
