Along the Length of the River Irwell between Irwell vale and Stubbins were large flocks of Sand Martins, my estimate would be around 400, there were small numbers of House Martins (30+), Swallow (40+), and Swift (20+) also.
There are still a few Sand Martin nests with well grown young being fed at he entrance hole in the site in Strongstry.
