Myself & John Hallsworth met up with Tom Dunbar, Gavin Ashworth & Sonia Allen (fellow Butterfly Conservation members) in a hunt for white letter hairstreak eggs today. Neither John or I had tried this before, but thought we'd give it a go. Finding the eggs proved, unsurprisingly, even harder than finding the adults. After checking Hugh Mill, Helmshore Textile Museum & Burnley Road, Bacup we accumulated a grand total of 1 egg found at Hugh Mill. Given that the eggs are only 3mm across this is probably not very surprising. Hopefully there are more eggs and hopefully next year will be a better year for butterflies in general
