Having filled all the feeders with peanuts, sunflower hearts and nyger and filled all the holes with berry/mealworm laced fat we left our Avian friends to it, and took off for a couple of days.
On our return our neighbour told us there had been a Green Woodpecker present yesterday and first thing this morning, more fat was applied to the favoured tree trunk, and with Brew in hand waited as the light faded, now normally in the birding world that would be that, but it is Christmas and sure enough on cue a very attractive male Green Woodpecker turned up for the last meal of the day, .
This is only the second time I have recorded this species at the feeding station, the last was several years ago and that was a juvenile in October.
