Ashland's Nursing Home Turn Pike

  • 2 great spotted woodpecker
  • 1pr nuthatch

  • 1pr long tailed tit nest building
  • 1 goldcrest

  • 2 greenfinch

Seat Naze

  • 2 pied wagtail
  • 1 male stonechat along the footpath in  front of Windy Willows Farm (1st ever record here for me)
  • 8 magpie
  • 6 jackdaw
  • 4 carrion crow
  • flock of 5 chaffinch plus 1 other bird

Edge Cote

  • 3 lapwing
  • 36 snipe
  • 9 jack snipe (can't recall a count as high as this locally. The highest count on ELOC going back to 1st Jan 2008 is 7)
  • 10 common gull
  • 1 black headed gull
  • 1 male pheasant
  • 1pr stock dove
  • 1 singing skylark plus 2 calling birds.  Another calling bird heard over the golf driving range at Marl Pits

Hurst Lane

Groundwork with Andy Young

  • 1 peregrine on Hardman Mill chimney

Holmes Terrace Lodge again with Andy Young

  • 1 grey heron
  • 1 little grebe
  • 1pr Canada goose
  • 2pr mallard
  • 1 moorhen
  • 4 black headed gull
  • 1 mistle thrush
  • 1 song thrush
  • 1 nuthatch
  • 1pr long tailed tit

Waterfoot area

  • 14 grey heron at Warth
  • 1 + 3 cormorant flying down the valley at 5pm, probably to roost at Holden Wood
  • 1 female sparrowhawk over Hugh Mill
  • flock of 21 common gull followed by a flock of 11 herring gull flying down the Irwell Valley from Cowpe @ 5pm.  These 2 flocks were followed by 3 larger flocks of assorted common, herring & lesser black backed gulls totalling c200 birds in the next 10 minutes heading in the same direction
  • 1 grey wagtail at Warth
  • 1 treecreeper at our feeders at Gaghills
  • min 100 jackdaws in the Rough Lea/ Warth area in pre roost gathering
  • charm of 16 goldfinch on Thornfield Avenue
