a single bat was flying around the trees across the river from EBSW at 15:00hrs today. My guess is Natterer's bat, but it is a largely uneducated guess

Hi Kevin,
Looks like the '60's batman logo - long thin wings & stubby ears, emerged early spring & flying before dark. How about Common Noctule?

I don't know enough about bats to be sure, but after reading a couple of brief articles on natterer and common noctule, common noctule does seem more likely

I too would be more inclined to say Noctule.
