Blue Tits....Good numbers of young several boxes used.
Great Tit...As above
Coal Tit...excellent numbers.
Long-tailed Tit....five nest sights watched over the last few weeks, one collapsed the others all fledged young, family parties seen today.
Goldfinch....several young seen, one pair nest at back of house and have at least four young.
Bullfinch....after a poor winter they seem ok, pair on cycle track feeding young, also pair in Irwell Vale, Ewood bridge and Porritt lodge.
Chaffinch....Good numbers through out route.
Greenfinch....pair in Chatterton and several on feeders at Ravenshore.
Redpoll...a pair have been feeding young in a friends garden in Irwell Vale.
Robins, Blackbirds and especially Dunnock in excellent numbers all round.
Nuthatch....high numbers especially in Strongstry woods.
House Sparrow....numbers are the best I have recorded, family parties at Chatterton, Ravenshore, and Edenfield.
Wren....everywhere.
Chiffchaff and Willow Warbler....difficult to see now, but singing birds heard round the route and one adult Willow Warbler carrying caterpillars.
Whitethroat...two pair nesting between Ewood bridge and Irwell Vale, none seen on cycle track this year.
Garden Warbler....one pair on territory in Strongstry woods.
Blackcap....several heard and seen, pair with young near picture frame, pair carrying food in Irwell Vale and a pair on cycle track near Alderbottom.
Goldcrest....never good numbers here, but single near Alderbottom and a pair at Porritt lodge.
Treecreeper....no nest site seen this year but pairs at Lumb, Strongstry, and picture frame.
Song Thrush.....best numbers for many years, young evident all round.
Mistle Thrush....not common hear but one pair have nested near Stubbins, no young seen
Great Spotted Woodpecker....five nest sites watched, young still being fed at three, no young seen on the wing yet.
Jay.....Good numbers, several young chasing round the woods
Jackdaw....everywhere.
Carrion Crow....several pairs with young.
Magpie.....lots all round.
Grey Heron....Single young at Alderbottom and one adult in Irwell Vale.
Swallow...very poor year, Four or five sites mostly stables where half a dozen nests at each site would be normal, none. Maybe around 10 seen all on the wing around Ewood bridge.
House Martin....several pairs at traditional nest sites in Edenfield.
Swift....at least two pair nesting in terraced houses in Edenfield, several on the wing at Alderbottom and Ewood bridge.
Sand Martin.....disaster.....no nest sites on river in Strongstry, four hawking insects near Ewood bridge.
Raptors...none seen this morning (too early ?) Two Buzzards yesterday evening, one Peregrine yesterday afternoon, and pair of Sparrowhawk regular in Strongstry woods.
Woodpigeon....plenty.
Collared Dove.....not many, pair in Irwell Vale.
Grey Wagtail....at least three pair with young along the river
Dipper.....only three nest sites seen this year, one has fledged young being fed on the river, the other two I can find no evidence of young.
Kingfisher.....none seen today, but one juvenile seen yesterday.
Pied Wagtail....not common here but two feeding in Chatterton.
Mallard...plenty of males on the river but only one female with young seen.
Pheasant....pair at Alderbottom.
Blackheaded Gull....several hunting along the river.
Starling.....plenty in Edenfield and Irwell Vale.
Tawny Owl....after an bad start in a cold march, of my five boxes two have produced young in the last couple of days, not sure on numbers yet. One other box may have unfledged young ?.
Notable absentees.....Spotted Flycatcher, Green Woodpecker, Moorhen, Siskin.
