  • teal - 10 at Holden Wood & 1 at Calf Hey
  • tufted duck - 1 male at Jamestone Quarry
  • sparrowhawk - 1 over Holden Wood, 1 over Haslingden Moor, 1 over Heap Clough & 1 over Holden Vale
  • kestrel - 1 at Holden Wood, 1 near Haslingden Moor & 1 at Jamestone Quarry
  • lapwing - 12 flew north east over Deep Clough
  • snipe - 79 on Haslingden Moor
  • moorhen - 3 at Holden Wood
  • red grouse - 10 on Haslingden Moor
  • black-headed gull - min 40
  • great black backed gull - 1 at Ogden & 1 flying up the valley

Possible Lapland bunting on Haslingden Moor. A small brown bird flew away from me, without giving good views, but appeared to be bigger than a meadow pipit, but not as big as a skylark.  It's flight call was something I have never encountered before. Call was similar to calls on xeno-canto website. Alas I cannot be certain, so it will have to go down as a possible only.

Also on Haslingden Moor' I thought I could here a small party of crossbills flying towards Clough Head/ Calf Hey. Calls were distant, so I couldn't be certain, but it might be worth checking any conifers with cones if anybody is in the area

last house martins in Waterfoot, were 2 on Tuesday 9th October
