  • grey heron - 1 at Holden Wood 
  • cormorant - 3 on Holden wood & 1 on Ogden in the morning. 32 in the roost & 3 on the res at Holden Wood @ 4pm.  Also 1 dead bird under a bush on the res bank
  • Canada goose - 102 at Holden Wood & 20 at Ogden
  • mallard - 3 at Holden Wood, 1pr at Ogden  & c4 on Calf Hey
  • Teal - 7 at Holden Wood, 1 on Ogden & 4 in Jamestone Quarry
  • goosander - 2 redheads on Holden Wood
  • goldeneye - 2 males & a female on Ogden & 1 male in Jamestone Quarry
  • golden plover - 4 + 2 on Haslingden Moor
  • moorhen - 4 on Holden Wood
  • coot - 1 on Holden Wood
  • pheasant - 1 male at Holden Wood
  • kestrel - 1 at Ogden
  • black-headed gull - c90 
  • common gull - 1 at Ogden
  • herring gull - 2 at Ogden & c10 birds over
  • great black-backed gull - 1 at Ogden
  • woodpigeon - 28 at Heap Clough
  • stock dove - 2 at Heap Clough
  • great spotted woodpecker - 1 female at Calf Hey
  • meadow pipit - 2 at Holden Wood
  • robin - 7 at Holden Wood, included 4 together. 7 at Calf Hey
  • blackbird - 3 at Calf Hey
  • mistle thrush - 1 singing at Holden Wood & 2 (1 singing) at Calf Hey
  • nuthatch - 1 in the woods and at least 2 at the feeders at Calf Hey
  • great tit - 4 at Holden Wood, 14 at Calf Hey & 3 at Heap Clough
  • blue tit - 2 at Holden Wood & 13 at Calf Hey
  • coal tit - c20 at Calf Hey
  • goldcrest - c15 feeding either on the ground or low in bushes and trees at Calf Hey
  • dunnock - 1 at Calf Hey feeders
  • wren - 7
  • carrion crow - 18 on Haslingden Moor
  • jackdaw - 60 - 70 birds circling over Holden Vale at 4:10pm in pre roost gathering. Possibly roosting in leylandii
  • chaffinch - min 10 at the feeders at Calf Hey & 9 at Heap Clough
  • brambling - min 3 at feeders at Calf Hey. Another birder from Longridge reported 15 present last week
  • greenfinch - 1 at Holden Wood & a wheezing bird at Calf Hey
  • siskin - min 2 males & 1 female at the feeders at Calf Hey. The female has a metal ring on the right leg
  • goldfinch - 12 at Holden Wood, c30 at feeders at Calf Hey & another charm of c18. min 60 in a couple of ash trees at the cemetery
  • bullfinch - calling bird at Holden Wood

Also noted 2 clumps of partridge droppings on Haslingden Moor. Looked like a grey partridge roost

Walking the dogs in Waterfoot this morning produced the following

  • herring gull - flocks of 34, 29, 25, 9, 12, 6 & 5 over (another flock of c30 over Road End as I was on the way to Grane)
  • collared dove - singing on Turn Pike
  • great tit - 5 singing
  • blue tit - 4 singing
  • coal tit 2 singing
  • song thrush 2 singing
  • goldcrest - 1 singing
  • dunnock - 2 singing
