Buckden woods/Porritt lodge area.

Overcast, cool North Westerly, five degrees, first light till 1030 hrs.

Yesterday evening I watched a Woodcock half heartedly displaying  over Buckden woods.

This morning in the same area the bird was feeding then flew up the Clough where it has been seen several times over the last weeks.

Also of interest this morning was the following...

Plenty of Song, including three Song Thrush, Single Mistle Thrush, Robin, Tits, and Nuthatch.

Pair of very vocal Green Woodpecker feeding on the wet ground behind Porritt lodge.

Pair of Goldcrest feeding and displaying, first for a while.

Unusually for this area were Six Greenfinch and a Male Reed Bunting around East view lodge.

Good numbers of Chaffinch with some Brambling mixed in.

Single Tawny Owl in usual roost.

Two seperate flocks of Goldfinch 12/16 flying round.

Two female and one Male Bullfinch eating the last of Guilder Rose berries.

At least four Great Spotted Woodpecker drumming and calling

Single Treecreeper feeding at East view.

Regards Brian.

Hi Brian

Must have passed you at some stage on my way up to the moors. One other notable songster was a chaffinch in Buckden Wood (I think my first of the year) plus a minimum of 5 singing song thrushes between Townsend Fold and Strongstry.

Andy
