G.C.Grebe, 1 on Holden Wood,

Cormorant, 5 on Holden Wood,

Grey Heron, 1 flying east down the valley,

Canada Goose, c130 in field by Holden Wood,

Mallard, pair on Holden Wood,

Buzzard, pair soaring and calling,

Coot, 3 on Holden Wood,

Moorhen, 2 on Holden Wood,

Oystercatcher, 8 in fields at Holden Wood and 1 in Jamestones,

Lapwing, 6 at Holden Wood,

B.H.Gull, c60 on Holden Wood or surrounding fields,

Mediterranean Gull, 1 in with B.H.Gulls, found by KL who rang to let me know. Cheers Kevin!

Stock Dove, 2 over Holden Wood and 2 in fields near Duke,

Wood Pigeon, c12 near Duke,

G.S.Woodpecker, 1 in Heap Clough,

Meadow Pipit, 1 near Holden Wood,

Mistle Thrush, pair in Heap Clough,

Fieldfare, c10 with c8 Starling dropped onto pasture above Troy,

Coal Tit, c6 calling birds, mainly Heap Clough & Troy,

L.T.Tit, 4 on feeders at Holden Wood,

Nuthatch, 1 at bottom of Heap Clough,

Jay, 1 behind Duke,

Starling, c15,

Goldfinch, c8,

Chaffinch, c8, many in song,

Bullfinch, calling birds near Holden Wood.

Hi Dave

the following can be added to your list

  • 40 cormorants in the roost at 5:30pm
  • goosander - 1 male flew up the valley at 5pm
  • teal - 1pr & a male on Holden Wood @ 5pm. Not seen in the morning
  • oystercatcher - the flock of 8 at Holden Wood relocated to Ogden, where there was another pair. In the afternoon there was a pair in Jamestone Quarry that may have been a different pair
  • lapwing - a flock of c60 were over Holden Wood just after 5pm
  • snipe - 1 at Ogden
  • woodcock - 1 at Calf Hey
  • curlew - 1 heard whilst I was in the trees at Calf Hey
  • pheasant - 1 male at Jamestone Quarry
  • sparrowhawk - 1 male over Holden Wood
  • stock dove - another 6 over Holden Wood, 3 at Ogden & 3 at Jamestone Quarry
  • woodpigeon - c45 at Ogden
  • great spotted woodpecker - 1 at Calf Hey
  • pied wagtail - 1 at Holden Wood
  • grey wagtail - 1 at Ogden
  • meadow pipit - 3 at Holden Wood
  • mistle thrush - singing at Calf Hey
  • fieldfare - 20 flew into trees above Troy Quarry
  • long tailed tit - 4 on feeders at Calf Hey
  • nuthatch - 3 at Calf Hey
  • treecreeper - 1 at Calf Hey
  • brambling - c6 at Calf Hey
  • chaffinch - c20 at Calf Hey
  • goldfinch - c40 at Calf Hey
  • siskin - 2 at Calf Hey
  • reed bunting - 3 at Holden Wood
