Lee Quarry
  • sparrowhawk - female flew from Stubbylee Park area up the hillside. 1 juv male chasing small birds through bushes in Lee Clough
  • little owl - 1 in east end of quarry
  • woodpigeon - c40
  • meadow pipit - 5
  • robin - 4
  • blackbird - c20 in Lee Clough (10 also seen in 2 hawthorns at Gaghills this morning)
  • song thrush - 1 in Lee Clough
  • redwing - c12 in Lee Clough & a flock of c60 over
  • mistle thrush - 1 in Lee Clough
  • blue tit - 2 in Lee Clough
  • coal tit - 2 in Lee Clough
  • great tit - 4 in Lee Clough
  • carrion crow - 10
  • jackdaw - 2
  • rook - calling bird
  • raven - 1
  • magpie 2
  • chaffinch -  min 10 in Lee Clough
  • goldfinch - min 4 in Lee Clough
  • greenfinch - 1 male in Lee Clough
  • bullfinch - 1 or 2 females in Lee Clough

Whitworth Quarry

  • snipe - 4
  • meadow pipit - 2
  • carrion crow - 6
  • goldfinch - 1

Cowm Res

  • grey heron - 1st winter bird in outflow
  • mallard - 21
  • tufted duck - 2 males
  • coot - 1
  • black-headed gull - c60
  • common gull - 4
  • lesser black backed gull - colour ringed juv on water ski jump, plus 1 adult flying away from res
  • herring gull - 3 over the res
  • raven - 1 over
  • goldcrest - 1 (few other small birds seen)

Have you reported the ringed gull? Dutch bird..

Hi Craig

I have reported it to north west gulls via CR Birding, as I wasn't sure if it was one of theirs or not. After reading Rob's reports on The Ashworth Moor Res thread on the GM forum I did wonder if it was a Netherlands bird.  I'll send details to them if you think it is from there. If and when I get a reply I'll post it on here.

Hi Kevin,

Id report it direct to Holland via cr birding. Green - no colons - are Dutch birds. Cant see any dots/colons in your pic.

email it direct and send your pic with it. Theyll no if its there bird or not.
