  • whooper swan - 4 flew east over Holden Wood @ 3:30pm
  • cormorant - 28 in the roost at Holden Wood @ 3:30pm
  • grey heron - 1 at Holden Wood & 2 at Calf Hey
  • Canada goose - 2 at Holden Wood, 2 at Ogden & 25 flying along Grane Road towards Hutch Bank
  • mallard - 2pr at Holden Wood, 1pr at Jamestones & 1 female in the field opposite the Duke of Wellington
  • teal - 1 male at Calf Hey
  • sparrowhawk - 1 at Holden Wood in the morning hunting starlings on the hillside, then 1 hunting redwings in roadside hawthorns along Grane Road in the afternoon
  • kestrel - singles at Holden Wood, Ogden & Jamestones
  • moorhen - 3 at Holden Wood
  • black-headed gull - c100 across the reservoirs
  • common gull - 1 at Holden Wood & 1 at Ogden
  • great black-backed gull - 1 on Ogden plus 2 over
  • herring gull - 3 at Ogden plus c36 over
  • great spotted woodpecker - 1 at Calf Hey & 1 at Heap Clough
  • woodpigeon - c 120 at Calf Hey & 30 over Holden Wood
  • pied wagtail - 1 at Holden Wood
  • grey wagtail - 1 at Ogden
  • meadow pipit - 3 at Holden Wood
  • robin - 12 at Calf Hey
  • stonechat - 1pr at Ogden
  • blackbird - 12 at Calf Hey
  • mistle thrush - 1 at Calf Hey
  • redwing - flocks of 2, 43, c100 & c50 over Holden Wood & 10 over Clough Head
  • fieldfare - flocks of 10, c20, c50 & c50 over Holden Wood
  • dipper - 1 at Ogden
  • wren - 8 at Calf Hey
  • nuthatch - 2 at Calf Hey
  • raven - 2 over Holden Wood & 2 over Calf Hey
  • starling - c250 at Holden Wood
  • greenfinch - calling bird at Holden Wood
  • goldfinch - c24 at Calf Hey & c30 at Heap Clough
  • siskin - min 16 at Calf Hey. There was possibly 3 times this number present. There was a large flock of small birds, tits and finches etc, in the treetops in the woods with many siskin calls. Unfortunately most birds in the flock kept themselves out of sight
  • crossbill - a flock of 7 at Calf Hey
  • bullfinch - calling bird at Holden Wood, female at Calf Hey
  • reed bunting - 2 flocks of 3 at Holden Wood
