Daily exercise walk produced my 1st calling Tree Pipit of the spring heading north over Killeleas steelworks. Also 2pr Dipper, pr Grey Wags, 2 new in male Willow Warblers, 4 male Chiffchaffs, pr Stock Doves, pr Buzzard, pr Sparrowhawk, and all the usual common birds in good numbers.
A bird in full song had me stumped completely. First thoughts was it was a Dipper but it wasnt in the river but in the trees quite high up but after 2 long drawn out songs it went quiet and I couldnt get on it. I am usually very good with bird song/calls but this one had me stumped proper. Need to investigate.
On a similar note my mum had a bird in non-stop rambling song at the bottom of Turton Hollow rd 3 days ago ( only 2/300 yrd away), in woodland, and im thinking it could be the same bird! Shes good with bird song too and didnt recognise this bird either.
