  • great crested grebe - 1 on Calf Hey
  • cormorant - 12 in the roost at 16:45hrs
  • grey heron - 1 at Holden Wood & 1 at Calf Hey
  • mallard - 12 at Holden Wood
  • teal - 5 at Holden Wood
  • lapwing - 19 at Ogden
  • buzzard - 3
  • kestrel - probably 6 individuals, including a male carry what looked like a field vole at Holden Wood
  • moorhen - 3 adults & a juv at Holden Wood
  • pied wagtail - 7
  • grey wagtail - 2 at Calf Hey
  • meadow pipit - c100 mostly around Holden Wood
  • swallow - flock of 8 flew through Ogden
  • raven - 2 over the hillside at Holden Wood
  • Jay - several sightings around Holden Wood, could've been the same 2 birds or as many as 6 birds
  • whitethroat - female in trees on the hillside at Ogden equals the latest record I could find for Rossendale, unless anyone knows different
  • chiffchaff - 4 at Holden Wood
  • mistle thrush - at least 31 on the hillside above Ogden 
  • ring ouzel - 1 on the hillside above Ogden (thanks to Gary from Ramsbottom for pointing it out)
  • wheatear - 1 at Holden Wood flew onto a telegraph pole 
  • stonechat - 2 at Holden Wood, 1 male at Ogden & 3 at Calf Hey
  • redpoll - 2 over Holden Wood
  • goldfinch - 2 charms of c12 at Holden Wood & Ogden
  • reed bunting - just a single calling bird at Holden Wood

Paul & Sarfraz reported a merlin along the side of Ogden

Hi Kevin

Also around Grane 5 wheatears between Hutch Bank and Jamestones and one over Ogden, 4 stonechats above Troy, a little owl above Troy (unusual in this area I think) and a singing chiffchaff at Calf Hey
