Hi Dave

I was up at Grane for the WEBS count today and can add the following

  • cormorant - 8 in the trees at Holden Wood @ 9am & 15 there at 3pm
  • wigeon - eclipse male and female in  Jamestone Quarry east was unexpected here
  • sparrowhawk - 1 male over Holden Wood
  • peregrine - 1 over Ogden
  • moorhen - 1 at Calf Hey
  • great black backed gull - a second bird joined the bird on Ogden & a juvenile flew over Jamestone Quarry
  • herring gull - flocks of 25 & 5 flew west in the afternoon
  • lesser black backed gull - 1 flew west with herring gulls
  • common gull - 1 at Calf Hey & 1 at Jamestone Quarry 
  • great spotted woodpecker - 2 at Clough Head
  • green woodpecker - 1 at Holden Wood
  • pied wagtail - 18 in fields across the road from The Duke of Wellington
  • stonechat - 3 alongside Holden Wood
  • Wheatear - 1 in Jamestone Quarry
  • dipper - 1 in the outflow at Holden Wood & 2 in the by wash at Ogden
  • nuthatch - 2 at Calf Hey
  • treecreeper - 1 at Calf Hey
  • long-tailed tit - flock of 16 at Holden Wood
  • raven - 2 over
  • chaffinch - flock of 17 at Holden Wood & 10 at Clough Head 
  • crossbill - flock of min 6 over Clough Head towards Haslingden Moor & 1 flew from Clough Head to the next plantation along the road to Blackburn
  • bullfinch - calling birds near Holden Wood & at least 3 at Holden Vale
  • reed bunting - 1 at Holden Wood

2 whooper swans seen flying south over Helmshore @ 9am
