  • grey heron - 1 flying over fields at Ewood Bridge
  • mallard - 48 at Tesco & 36 on the river at EBSW
  • goosander - 1pr flew upstream at Townsendfold
  • moorhen - 1 on a wall above the river at EBSW
  • buzzard - 3 sightings of singles between K Steels & EBSW, involved at least 2 birds
  • kestrel - 1 at Ewood Bridge
  • snipe - 2 in the field across from K Steels
  • herring gull - 2 north & 17 south over Ewood Bridge
  • great black-backed gull - 5 heading north over Ewood Bridge
  • common gull - 2 singles over Rawtenstall
  • black-headed gull - c50 at Tesco & c200 at EBSW
  • feral pigeon - 3 over Ewood Bridge, 8 at Tesco & 14 in Waterfoot
  • woodpigeon - small numbers throughout, with displaying birds noted at several sites
  • collared dove - 1pr over Irwell Vale
  • meadow pipit - 3 at EBSW
  • pied wagtail - c30 at EBSW
  • grey wagtail - 1 at Warth, 1 at Rawtenstall & 1 at EBSW
  • dipper - min 8, included singing birds at Irwell Vale & Townsendfold
  • wren - c10
  • dunnock - c5
  • goldcrest - 2 at EBSW
  • blue tit - small groups of up to 4 birds at several sites
  • great tit - ditto
  • coal tit - c5
  • long tailed tit - a couple of small flocks in Waterfoot & a small flock at Townsendfold
  • robin - c25
  • blackbird - c20
  • song thrush - 3
  • fieldfare - 2 at Groundwork
  • Jay - 1 at Ewood Bridge
  • magpie - 6 in a hawthorn at Dam Top plus many singles along the way
  • carrion crow - c40 at EBSW and several pairs and singles along the way
  • jackdaw - 40 in the same hawthorn as the 6 magpies at Dam Top, c30 at Warth, but hardly any at EBSW
  • starling - just 3 on a pylon at Groundwork
  • house sparrow - flock at Parkinson Fold
  • chaffinch - just 1pr at Warth
  • greenfinch - 3 at Warth
  • goldfinch - c6
  • bullfinch - calling bird at Park Rd Waterfoot, male at Ewood Bridge by the riverside, a flock of 1 male & 4 females off Manchester Road & a calling bird across the river from EBSW
