Location of snipes at Edge Cote
Permalink

Hi,

I'm new to the forums (and indeed to birdwatching).

Browsing the bird sightings forums there always seems to be at least a dozen snipes at Edge Cote.

However, I've been up there three times now looking for them and all I've seen is mushrooms and an asda trolley.

Could anyone give me some tips on where to look?

Thanks,

Moh.

Hi Moh

Snipe are birds of wet, muddy areas generally away from trees, so these are the areas to check. At this time of year any wet field that doesn't get too much disturbance might hold snipe. Edge Cote holds a lot of birds at various times, largely because it is undisturbed. I only go over it myself about once a month to do a flushing survey, just to see how many birds are there and wouldn't want to encourage too many people to do the same, otherwise there will be no birds. Other sites probably worth checking are Haslingden Moor, Harden Moor, Cowpe Lowe & Cowpe Moss

If you are new to birding I would encourage you to come to a club meeting once we get them up and running again. We are only a small club and you can learn a lot about the local area once you get to know others.

I hope this is of some use to you

cheers Kevin
