  • Grey heron - 1
  • pink-footed goose - skeins of 26 flew south-east @ 16:25 & then skein of 52 flew east @ 16:29. At 16:15 I could hear birds to the south of the quarry but could not locate them. I also heard birds calling over Seat Naze this morning, but again couldn't locate them.
  • teal - 2 on quarry pond
  • goosander - 1 over
  • snipe - 15, 12 of which were together at one pond
  • jack snipe - my earliest ever returning bird in wet area on the moor
  • Kestrel - 1 hunting the moor
  • skylark - 1
  • meadow pipit - c70
  • swallow - 4
  • house martin - 6
  • wheatear - 1 in Whitworth Quarry & another 2 in Lee Quarry
  • stonechat - 2 males in ferns at Lee Quarry
  • willow tit - whilst clambering through a rock pile a small bird with a black head flew past me, then a willow tit flew from behind me and landed on a rock, 10 feet in front of me, before quickly moving on, so possibly 2 birds passed through. Not something I ever expected to see up here.
  • goldfinch - c25 feeding on thistles
  • linnet - 2

cheers Kevin
