• Grey heron - singles at Edge Cote, Rawtenstall & Holmes Terrace Lodge
• Canada goose - 4 at Holmes Terrace Lodge
• mallard - 50 on the river at Tesco in Rawtenstall & 27 on the beds at EBSW, with at least another 6 on the river
• goosander - redhead on the river at EBSW
• moorhen - 7 at Holmes Terrace Lodge & singles on the river at Irwell Vale & EBSW
• buzzard - 2 at Edge Cote, 1 over Ewood Bridge & possibly a different bird harassed by a carrion crow over EBSW
• peregrine - at least 1, possibly 2 on Harman's chimney at Newhallhey
• kestrel - probably the same bird seen 3 times in the Marl Pits/ Edge Cote area
• snipe - one hundred & ninety at Edge Cote, including 1 flock of c80 birds was a new site record!
• jack snipe - 1 at Edge Cote
• black-headed gull - c140 at EBSW
• stock dove - flock of 3 at Ewood Bridge
• Woodpigeon 30 near Marl Pits
• kingfisher - 1 at EBSW & 1 near the bypass bridge at Townsendfold, which may have been the same bird heard later at The Holme
• great spotted woodpecker - singles at Marl Pits & EBSW
• stonechat - female near Edge Cote Farm
• mistle thrush - 7 at Edge Cote & 2 at Holmes Terrace
• redwing - flocks of 14 & 9 at Marl Pits & singles at Holmes Terrace & EBSW
• fieldfare - c100 at Edge Cote
• blackbird - minimum of 8 in one hawthorn at Marl Pits, looked to be a mixture of continental and local birds
• long-tailed tit - flocks of up to a minimum of 12 birds at Marl Pits, Groundwork, Holmes Terrace, Townsendfold & EBSW (2 flocks)
• goldcrest - 2 singles at Marl Pits & a minimum of 3 in the plantation at Edge Cote
• chiffchaff - 1 near the old soap works near EBSW
• dipper - 3 along the river from Groundwork to Ewood Bridge
• jay - 1 at Marl Pits
• jackdaw - min 140 at EBSW
• siskin - min 1 at Marl Pits
• bullfinch - 2 seen and others calling at Marl Pits & a calling bird at Ewood Bridge
• reed bunting - 1 at Edge Cote

also of note; not a single pied wagtail seen at EBSW today!
