RSPB Marshside and Lunt Meadows Nature Reserve
With a weather forecast dry and sunny over at Southport sounded good for a trip over to the coast
Thought Id start at the Old Sand Works, there was four local birders already looking out over the marsh
pointing out raptors out on the marsh soon we was having close views of Marsh Harrier and Ringtail Harrier and a male
Hen Harrier that decided to land on the shoreline giving great views
Raptors seen there Marsh Harrier/ Buzzard/ Peregrine Falcon/ Merlin/ Hen Harrier/ Kestrel
With the tide being in there was some big flocks of waders flying up and down the shoreline lots of geese good number of Shelduck
A walk over the road to have a look at Suttons Marsh Crossens Inner Marsh which was totally flooded and had attracted lots of Ducks and Waders
Lapwing being the greatest number when a Sparrowhawk put hundreds of them up
Next a trip down to Lunt Meadows for the last two hours of daylight hopefully to see Ringtail and Barn Owls
wasnt disappointed with the Ringtail giving fantastic views also Buzzard and Kestrel
As the light was going fast a Barn Owl came out doing two full circuits before dropping down then flying off with a small mammal in its beak
with the light almost gone and the rain starting was time to move great day on the coast
Cheers Craggy
