Pied Wagtail Pair nesting in bank Strongstry.
Dipper Adult carrying food to nest site Strongstry, Not seen Alderbottom pair for over a week probably some form of predation, pair with nest site Irwell vale and pair upstream of Ewood bridge.
Mallard At least 3 females with max 12 young, several males.
Swallow 5 along river.
House Martin 7/9 high over Stubbins
Willow Warbler Good numbers in song along route.
Blackcap As above.
Chiichaff Some still in song others nesting.
Whitethroat Single in song near Ewood bridge.
Redstart Not seen or heard during last four visits !!!
Greenfinch Several pairs Lodge farm and Lumb.
Goldfinch Several nesting pairs around.
Bullfinch 2 pair around my house, pair in Lumb, pair Ewood bridge.
Chaffinch Been i while since I have heard so many in song.
House Sparrow Good numbers at two colonies Stubbins and Chatterton
Long-tailed Tit Been watching a nest attached to a tree trunk, adults feeding young, others in Strongstry woods.
Nuthatch Pair with nest hole in back garden, more throughout woods.
Treecreeper 2 pair, one Strongstry one Irwell vale
Stock Dove Pair breeding in tree hole.
Song Thrush Several pairs with some still in song.
Mistle Thrush One pair using tree hole nest.
Lodge farm lodge 2 pair breeding Little Grebe, one nest very visible could not see young so maybe still on eggs, other nest not visible, all adults very vocal. Pair Moorhen, pair Canada Geese, single juvenile Grey Heron no visible nest.
Suffice to say the commoner Robin,Wren, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Dunnock, Blackbird, Woodpigeon, Jackdaw, Etc were in good numbers.
Observations Not seen a Jay or Green woodpecker since late winter, only know of one nesting pair of Great Spotted Woodpecker, I have not seen as many airbourne insects for many years especially over the river
