Saturday 13 December   Blackcap at Victoria Park, Haslingden

Tuesday 1     151 Mallards at Holden Wood Res

Thursday 18  Sept    approx 250 Swallows and Martins flying in a southerly direction over Holden Wood Res of these maybe 10 were House Martins, 70 were Sand Martins and the rest Swallows.....a further 150 mixed flock of Sand Martins and Swallows seen over the fields behind the Holden Arms but they could have been par tof the already mentioned movement , Blackcap at Holden Wood Res too

Walk around Grane and Quarries today 19 Sept  and the highlights were about 30 House Martins over Ogden, approx 40 Swallows in total, 4 Chiffchaff, maybe up to 12 Stonechat behind Troy, approx 50 Goldcrest around Calf Hey, Jamestone West and the path between Troy and Jamestone East,   singing Robins everywhere and a couple of singing Wrens too, quite with finches and tits, approx 5 Kestrels maybe a bit more, maybe 8 Buzzards, a Hobby over and an Osprey put in an appearance and drifted to the North.   5 Birds of Prey day including a Sparrowhawk

 

 

I've seen more Osprey on autumn migration in Rossendale this year than Wheatear....4   - 2

Osprey came active from 8.10am until just after 9.   Circled and landed on fencepost near bench at Holden Wood Reservoir,   moved to Ogden.  Not seen to catch a fish but hasn't been reported even though a few observers present always.  Has white right leg ring with possible coding  JOL  and some extra numbers?  Hobby, Peregrine, 2 Sparrowhawk, numerrous Buzzrad and Kestrel around Reservoirs and Quarries

 

35 Pink Footed Geese over west then south, 212 Mallard on Holden Wood along with 5 Teal, 1 Kingfisher

Reed Buntings very active and flighty, Meadow Pipits grounded maybe 80 around the area, 27 Skylarks moving south, 1 juvenile female Wheatear at Deep Clough, Linnets still around Grane but in much smaller numbers, Goldcrest still in good numbers as Friday, approx 20 Long Tailed Tits, about 40 Swallows and  5 Sand Martins passing through
