Not much seen at either site. It was blowing a gale up at the quarry and it hail-stoned, thundered and snowed at Ewood Bridge. What few sightings there were listed below

  • oystercatcher - 1pr in Whitworth Quarry & a calling bird at EBSW
  • lesser black-backed gull - 2 singles on the quarry pool in Whitworth Quarry plus flocks of 5 & 3 flying west. Another group of 5 flew west in the company of 2 herring gulls & 4 jackdaws
  • dipper - 1pr under the bridge at Manchester Road, Ewood Bridge & 1 at Groundwork
  • chiffchaff - singing birds at Lee Quarry, Clod Lane & Groundwork
  • robin - 1 seen flying down to the river at Groundwork where it picked something off the river in flight. Never seen a robin do this before
  • greenfinch - birds noted at Gaghills, Cowm Top, Clod Lane & The Holme. Numbers seem to be increasing
  • siskin - flock of at least 12 near the bypass bridge at Townsendfold
  • linnet - flocks of 8 & 4 at Whitworth Quarry

cheers Kevin
