Jim et al : Yesterday (Sunday October 29th 2006) at 1350hrs had a Ring-Necked Parakeet flying around our Avenue constantly shrill calling and being harassed by a local Magpie. Seem to think from the behaviour that it may have been a escapee... but there again it was a very strong flyer, so who knows.... Somebody reported to me only last year that a small colony was seen regular around the Robin Hood Pub area on Holcombe Road, Helmshore. Anyway on with today....... Monday October 30th 2006 - Haslingden King's Highway 0745hrs - 0815hrs Wind: SW 8-10mph COMPLETELY MISTED OUT TOGETHER WITH CONTINUAL LIGHT RAIN - Whilst there I could hear Redwings going over clearly, calling at regular 3 minute intervals. 1030hrs-1130hrs Wind SW 8-10mph Movement South unless stated otherwise. Mist semi-cleared - with 60% visability. First decent party of Fieldfare. Fieldfare: 51 W or SW (one party 40 SW) Redwing: Still audible calls overhead at 1030hrs but could not pick up on them, No calls after 1100hrs. Jackdaw: 14 Meadow Pipit: 13 Chaffinch: 7 Greenfinch: 6 (2 E) Woodpigeon: 4 BHG: 6 W Goldfinch: 4 Starling: 6 (4W & 2 SE) Redpoll: 4 Sparrowhawk: 1 (probably local) Great Spotted Woodpecker: 1 SE
