Owl sighting off the a56 - 18/11/2006

i was driving up te m66......and just entered the section where the motorway ends and becomes the a56 at 7.45pm.....when an owl appeared andflew across the motorway......it appeared fairly light in colour..........not a tawny owl.......


it could have been a short eared owl but i suspect a barn owl.....although i did not get a chance to clearly identify it...

It will be interesting to see if there are any other sightings in the Edenfield area.  Tawny Owl is by far the most likely, and they have a habit of looking very pale in car headlights, but Barn Owl is still a possibility.

i have neevr seen a barn owl before.......i dont think the bird appeared white from underneath...moe of a beige......i did nt see it in car head lights......it flew above....about 10 metres off the ground and then landed in some smal trees.....it as at that stage i noticed the paleness....
