Dec 4th 2006 3pm ish - Leabrook ref 809 237 - Tip Lodge ref 814 237

Greetings all -

Several species showing despite a poor day weather wise. A pair of Dippers were at Leabrook on the river and a group of 16 Long Tailed Tits were in trees close by. A further group of at least 10 birds (there's a lot about) were across the road from the Ashworth Arms along with 3 Blue and a single Coal Tit.

At Tip Lodge (veiwing from the gate) there were c12 Redwings and Blackbirds feeding on Holly and Hawthorn and a single Goldfinch flew over.  c120 B.H.Gull were feeding on the farmland eventually moving off N. towards Clowbridge Res.

A small group of Starlings flew W. as if going to roost and a further small group (7) flew in the same direction over Rawtenstall centre a little later.

Brookes' Wood at Reedsholme has been holding up to 200 Wood Pigeons most days for some time now and at the bird table Bullfinchs have peaked at 4 birds so far.  A G. S. Woodpecker is a regular visitor to the nuts along with perhaps a dozen Chaffinch and lesser numbers of Greenfinch. A Song Thrush is still under the impression that spring is just around the corner with song heard on most days, usually stongest early in the morning. Both Kestrels are still in the area and usually return to the tower during heavy rain to perch on their usual ledge until it drys up.

Regards Bob.

Good to hear from you again Bob, I was getting worried.

I had a Song Thrush singing at work today ay about 3.45pm, on the edge of dark, during overcast weather and with blustery showers.
