Dipper and nuthatch sightings & others

Walking the dog up the Alden stream, Musbury on 27th Nov at 10am, a dipper was feeding in the leaves at the western end of the stream. New white splashes on the rocks as I walked upstream told me he was about, as we had had rain in the night and sure enough, the white  flash of his chest was visible first. He waded in the pool and then went underwater for a few seconds as I watched. Not much bobbing or dipping as he was busy feeding. This autumn and summer  there have been fewer dipper sightings - last year I saw him regularly most weeks, often accompanied by a pair of grey wagtails, this year, a month could go by without a sighting. My husband Brian often sees him (or another?) at the Holcombe Rd end of the Alden, by the bridge under the road.

A pair of nuthatches feeding regularly on bird nuts at 19 Sunnybank Cottages from September onwards, no sightings in the summer at all so I don't know where they went, as we had a pair fledged in the spring who fed  until May.

A pair of great spotted woodpeckers feeding regularly on a slab at the back of the house, seen nearly every day.

Welcome to the forum, Jackie.  I notice you've drawn Ian's attention to your Dipper in the General Discussion area.  Good to hear about the Nuthatch, too.
