Holmes Terrace Lodge and AMR etc 19/01/07

Holmes Terrace Lodge 14:00: 5 grey heron, 72 mallard, 4 moorhen, 1 coot, 11 black headed gull, 3 great black backed gull flew over towards Ashworth Moor Res, 6 long tailed tit. 62 lapwings were seen flying over the Road End area of Haslingden.

Turn Village 14:50: 2 mistle thrush, 2 fieldfare, 6 redwing.

Harden Moor 15:00 c250 starling, c 50 fieldfare.

Ashworth Moor Res from 15:30: 1pr mallard, 39 goosander, c800 black headed gull, c200 common gull, 4 herring gull, c150 great black backed gull, c45 lapwing, 1 peregrine flew over towards Turf Moor, 1 grey wagtail.

That seems a lot of GBBs, Kev.  Are you positive none were LBBs?

Hi Jim

I couldn,t see any lbbgs amongst them.  David Winnard who runs the wildlife of Rochdale website was there with me and he told me they are coming in from Pilsworth Tip. He has emailed me telling me of a count of 230 gbbgs last winter.

I'd no idea they were in such numbers at AMR.  Most we've had before has been around 50.
