Hi

I am hoping to get out for a couple of hours this Sunday morning after a break from birding over winter.  I am just wondering if anyone can suggest a good, shortish walk in the Rossendale area.  I just feel like a change from Grane and Clowbridge.  I probably only have a few hours early on Sunday morning.

Cheers
Matt

Hi Matt,
What about Strongsry to Irwell Vale and Raven shore? A bit different from walking round a res. A good mixture of birds about if you are early enough, before the dog walkers get out.
May be a bit muddy by the water though, given the recent rain.
Regards
Ina

Hi Matt,
I agree with Ina[but i am biased],there is goosander, dipper and grey wagtail on the river,if you take in the porritt lodge area, there are bullfinch, goldcrest and the chance of a sparrow hawk.
Enjoy where ever you go,if you try above our paths may cross.

                             Regards Brian

Hi Matt

Another alternitive would be Cowm Reservoir in Whitworth.  If you're driving it is easy to get to and there is a path right around the res.  If you have the time Spring Mill Res is not far away.  As you're from Newchurch, Staghills Woods might be worth a look.  To stretch a walk through here it would be worth checking the old railway line from Hareholme to Warth and then possibly going to Lench Lodges at the lower end of Cowpe Valley.  Either of these walks could give you a good variety of birds on a good day.  Have a good day wherever you go.

cheers Kevin
