Hi everyone, Has anyone seen any groups/flocks of 5 or more Bramblings this winter?? There was quite a large influx on the eastern side of the country in sept/oct last year. Spurn had 200-300 birds on several days, with a few reaching us here 2-3 weeks later , but since late november when the bad weather started we haven`t seen 1 !. There are decent numbers of Chaffinch around Crawshawbooth feeding on the excellent Beechmast crop, and at feeding stations, but no Bramblings.. Any comments..... Best wishes, Craig.
There are at least 6 bramblings usually on Edgeside Lane above the park. These are probably the same birds that visit our feeders at Gaghills in Waterfoot. Up to 20 birds have been recorded at Strongstry this winter. 4 or 5 birds have also ben recorded at Calf Hey
Hi Kevin, Some birds about still then. Really disapointing up this end. Decent numbers before the snow then nothing. Had looked like being a good winter for them. Lots of beechmast for them to feed on in Brookes`s wood and Folly wood, but cant find any!! Craig.
As Kevin says we have been lucky enough to have a good flock here in Strongstry since early November, the highest count has been 23, normally there are around 16, on Monday morning just after dawn there was present at the feeding station,
Jay 2 G S Woodpecker 1 m Collard dove 2 Wood pigeon 1 Nuthatch 2 Treecreeper 1 Robin 3 Blackbird 2 [there numbers have dropped since damp weather] Song thrush 1 B Tits 6+ G Tits 8+ C Tit 2 Bullfinch 5 Brambling 12 Chaffinch 4 Greenfinch 2 Dunnock 2
My wife said the Goldfinch and L T Tits turned up later.
Hi Brian, Nice selection coming to your garden. Ive got 2 feeding stations set up in C/booth, mainly to mist net/ring Brambling and Chaffinch, after decent numbers arrived in autumn. Both sites usually attract Bramblings, and in good numbers. But the birds that turned up have completely gone now. Lots of other stuff coming inc up to 12 Bullfinch, 1 Nuthatch, 4 GSW, 12+ Jay, max count of 14 Blackbirds which have arrived from nowhere! ,good numbers of Great, Blue and Coal Tits. Lots of L T Tit and 2-3 Treecreepers feeding on fat feeders which seemed to have survived the snow ok. Distinct lack of Greenfinch and 1 Siskin all winter!! Craig.
