Most have probably seen this free online listing program but if not then you may find this easy and quite useful.

It has been revamped lately and is very intuitive.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE If you do have any inclination to use eBird then please do! I have done a little more work on it and I have now found a way of collating all the info so that it shows up in a quickfire shot of what's about in Rossendale. The work is all pre done and you have to do nothing but input them straight into eBird and the quickfire list is automatically updated. Jim can you enter HTML code somehow into the website so that this could be put straight onto here??? Only a suggestion of course. Once you have uploaded your sightings to eBird you can then copy the data on to the forum a lot easier than manually importing all the sightings. I put these sightings on the other day using this format which I found easy. http://rocforum.activeboard.com/t44128554/facit-incline-cowm-res-27072011/ If you want to see a sample of the quick fire list I am talking about then I have added them here Quickfire List and Here http://www.wildrossendale.co.uk/index.htmlQuickfire List Please give me any feedback as to eBird and the quickfire list usefulness???? The eBird alone is very useful even for you Mr Fyldes!

I re read that and it sounds like I had something to do with eBird. I do not I am just trying to facilitate the info and also it's good to be able to have your lists at hand no matter what computer you are on. You can also make a full backup of all your data on your computer so you always have a hard copy.

Looks interesting, Ste. However, I've just noticed in your gadget that 1st August is showing as 8/Jan. Not sure if it is the gadget or eBird.

Hi Jim

Yes I noted this also. Am I correct in thinking you have/do use Ebird yourself? Any findings yourself on this?

I have inputted data from various places from around the world and I have been impressed with it's ability to crop the bird list to the place you are inputting from so that you are not sifting through thousands of birds.

The gadget should now be updated and I can also filter birds out to not show sightings, ie Magpie or Carrion Crow for example.

Can you input HTML into this site? It may be worth a try or will it be counter productive maybe?

I had a go at eBird following your post but I'm a bit tied up at present - both my Mum and my aunt are in hospital at the moment, fortunately both in the same one.

I logged the date issue against the gadget on Google so hopefully the builders will fix it. I'll investigate further as time permits.

I have no doubt that 'ebird' is an excellent programme. However, it is American based and designed for American birders. Surely it would be better for British birders to submit their records to the British equivalent.

BirdTrack is a partnership between BTO, RSPB, Bird Watch Ireland and the Scottish Ornithologists' Club and the scheme is run by BTO on their behalf. Please do visit www.bto.org/volunteer-surveys/birdtrack and explore the site. In particular, do click on the 'About BirdTrack' tab to find out what it is all about.

All sightings entered into BirdTrack are used to build up a national picture. An observer can download their own records at any time and use them to produce charts and graphs if they wish. Also, county and club recorders can download all sightings relevant to their recording area whenever necessary. This would give ROC access to local records from BirdTrack participants who are not members of the club and records from visiting participants.

If you wish to submit sightings for other countries then you will find a link on the BirdTrack website to 'Worldbirds' which in turn has links to all other countries that have on-line recording systems, including ebird in N.America.

Thanks for the feedback. In all honesty the fact that it is designed by such and such has no real role in my opinion. I purely use something on how well it performs overall and having been a recorder for some time on Birdtrack, Garden Watch etc I can state that these two products are totally poles apart in usability.

I think that we if our birding is purely about conservation then the ethos behind BTO is a fine one, but for a lot of birders it is simply not feasible to use birdtrack as listing software. I think it's more personal usage with eBird? Why not do both. Maybe BTO could learn a thing a to about software? I am a big supporter of world birding as many know it's often information from Europe and Africa where info is short on as many more problems in "foreign" countries are undetected etc. It's Ok knowing about UK stuff but most of our birds are purely spending only a short time in there lives actually here.

I will take another look at the BTO though, shame these companies can't come together for a common cause.
