Question about Bird Food

How is that if I put something different down, something different comes??

I was told to put down Niger seeds to bring Goldfinches; no Goldfinches came yet but certainly Greenfinches and Bullfinches are now regulars - how on earth do they know?  Especially with Niger seeds, which are black and extremely tiny?

Sometimes it can take time to come. I think they will watch other birds and see why they are visiting. Sooner or later you will haved a beautiful Sparrowhawk visiting!

They would be back though. Sadly no Sparrowhawks visit my house. Niger seeds also attract Siskin too. If you put a pond in your garden you might even get a Bittern! Some lucky person in Rossendale had a Bittern at his garden pond! Goshawk, Barn Owl have also been seen once in a garden in Rossendale. I have had Grey Wagtail in a winter. I hope we get something nice visiting my house tomorrow - Sparrows and Starlings will make me happy. At the moment Feral Pigeons are eating up all the food wit the occasional Jackdaw. The Feral Pigeons have hatched their young already.

There is a church tower at the back of my garden which is full of crows and jackdaws. When they come down to steal the food and try to get into the feeders I open and bang my window. It always puts off the big boys but the tiny ones don't mind as much and they come back right away! I don't actually own the propery so I won't be able to put a pond in but at the moment I am over the moon with these coloured little birds. Don't seem to get feral pigeons, but around 5 wood pigeons and a couple of collared doves come all the time. I wish the black and white woodpecker would come back ...........

I meant to say I can't wait for the time when we can open our windows and actually hear when different birds come. Certainly not this week ....
