I've got my windows full open and I can hear lots of birds in the garden and beyond in the churchyard, but I just heard one that I have never heard before. I can only describe its call as 2 notes only, up down, up down, up down. That's it.
I've listed on the RSPB website to every bird I have seen in the garden, but this one is new. It sounds like a much bigger bird than a finch, sparrow, robin-sized bird, but nothing like a pidgeon or crow.
From the description of the call I wonder if the bird in question is a chiffchaff. It is named after it's song which goes chiff - chaff. It is quite a small bird, not much bigger than a goldcrest and often sings from the tops of mature trees
