Summer bird race

The summer bird race would have been due to take place on 7th June. Obviously with the current situation we could not have the race in it's usual form, but there is no reason why we couldn't have a solo bird race, where people with cars can visit as many sites as possible, and people such as myself without a car hoof it to as many sites as possible, obviously with social distancing observed at all times. Results could then be forwarded onto somebody, to see what has been seen. There are often surprises and the results over the years do show the changes to local birdlife, so it would be a shame to miss out this year. After speaking to Ian he has suggested sticking to the original 7th June date. Perhaps times could be a little more flexible than usual, as we won't be meeting up at a pub to discuss the results.

If anybody has any thoughts please reply to the post or contact me.

cheers Kevin

I can and will do Grane Musbury etc. Unlikely to have other commitments. Might not necessarily start at 6am though. Anyone want to do a socially distance walk around is more than welcome if allowed.

I must add of course other people can do Grane and my offer does not and should not exclude others from doing it.

Also this Sunday 31st May would be easier as forecast looks good.

I think no cars, unless needed to reach a point where you can cover a good area, I will do the attached area in two outings, 0600/1000 hrs then 1200/1600 hrs so eight hours walking and list all species seen, could be interesting, as Sarfraz said with social distancing in place happy for some company, lunch provided of course.

Regards Brian

I'm glad this is going ahead. I'll do Grane, Musbury and the surrounding quarries, probably with Sarfraz.

Hi Guys,
I intend to start early tomorrow, while there is little disturbance, then have a break in the middle of the day and then go back out during the evening and hope that is ok?
I'll mainly cover The Limy & Whitewell valley's but hopefully get to HTL and Hareholme.
If you can P.M. your records of anything you think is likely to have been missed by others along with the total number of birds you've seen I'll collate a list of all sightings and a total for the day and put something on the sighting page on Monday.
Please get in touch if any queries.
Best Regards,
David.
