its been very good to join such a forum which provides up-to-date information on birds in the local area.....it surely would help my bird watching in the future.......i used to read books but they were national and information was not up-to-date.....i wanted to ask soem questions......
1. which species have become extinct in Rossendale over the last 20 years?
2. which species are on the verge of extinction?
3. which species are becoming rare and are threatened?
4. which species have started breeding for the first time ever in this area?
5. which species have started to breed again in this area after an absence?
6. which species are increasingly being noted in the Rossendale area?
i hope other posters dont mind contributing to this discussion....it will definitely give me an idea on birds within the local area......
I notice Tony Cooper has replied to a similar question you posted on the East Lancs forum and I think that would pretty well cover the Rossendale situation, too.
The text of the ROC Reports from 1993 onwards is available on our website (listed in the Links above) so you can probably get some of the answers there.
You might also come along to an ROC meeting and chat to other local birders to get their opinions. Again, see the ROC Homepage for details of meetings (next one 18th Dec).
Yes - next meeting is a week on Monday - 7.15 at the Weavers Cottage, Bacup Road in Rawtenstall. The booklet you mention may have been one of our annual reports - we usually sell some via the libraries, or perhaps it was the update to The Birds of Rossendale published in 2000.
