Lots of frog spawn seen today at Edge Cote, Holden Wood & Ogden. Unfortunately quite a bit of it was not in water despite the recent heavy rain. cheers Kevin

First Bee sighting for me in a neighbours garden. Also a 7 spot? Ladybird tucking into insects on a Lavender plant in the garden. Aahhh the smell of spring!

on saturday about 4 pm i saw a strange insect - one i have never seen before. it appeared to be a fly and it was on a wall...it was slimmer in body than say houseflies and much smaller ..possibly under a cm long..... the colouring was unusual....it's body appeared dividied into 2 - first bit a turquoisey...

While sheltering from a thunder storm under railway bridge on the bridleway. 2 Weasels playing on the path and in/out of grass. Great entertainment, but I was almost afraid to breath in case they vanished. Ina

A single toad seen in bullrushes in a field near Irwell Vale today. Hundreds of tadpoles (quite large but none so far with legs) and even more small fish were in the Irwell just before the waterfall at Townsendfold where the bypass crosses over. cheers Kevin

Whilst at Top O'th Slate I have come across the flower below and wondering if its a variant of the Bluebell, because I cant say as I have ever seen lilac bluebells before and there seems to be no mention in my fieldguides of such variants...... obviously any information would be really welcomed. http:/...

Minimum of 30 Toads spawning in shallows in S.bay also heard them from one of the back ponds. Four Pike seen in shallows weights ranging from 3lb to 12lb must be ready for spawning. Bob.

Pair of toads on footpath on the dam of the res. Smaller male on top clinging on being carried along by larger female. Not sure where nearest breeding pond is. This seems to be a peak of mating activity for toads. I went on an amphibian survey training session at Moses Gate Country Park, Bolton yest...
